Bantayan Island Day 2 : Part 1 – Fresh Catch of the Day
We easily woke up at 7:00AM and after a quickie shower decided to seize the fresh catch of the day by going to the Bantayan Public Market on our trusted Kawasaki. Bantayan Public Market is in Bantayan town and is only 11km (20 minutes) away from Sta. Fe via scooter at a reasonable speed of 30-40km/h on the main two lane hi-way with a speckle of vehicles on the road. We had a chance to enjoy a smoothe drive with a couple of hills and well paved roads surrounded by nature and wildlife.

When we arrived in Bantayan town, it was easily recognizable because of the central plaza with an old church in the background.
The Bantayan Public Market was just located one exit to the right from the town central plaza not far from the sea and boardwalk.
The public market is divided into a few sections, one focused on clothes, cosmetics, food:dried fish and fresh sea products. The seafood market, which was our primary interest for this trip was right next to the boardwalk and the fishing boats that brought them in.
When we arrived at the seafood market, we were surprised that it was quite spacious and airy.
We did not have a clue what we wanted to eat so we roamed around and examined what was on offer.
There was quite a selection of giant conches and clams which looked quite exotic.
Stingrays – not too sure how the locals cook this in Bantayan, and as we were not in Singapore, this would not be an option!
Medium sized prawns were a little cheaper than Manila at PHP 300.00 ($US 7.00) per kilo and the vendor even held one up for us to show its freshness. We ended up just getting the giant clams at PHP 15.00 ($US 0.35) per kilo and one of the local fishes.
They also had a rich choice and quantity of dried fishes that the combined aromas resulted in a olfactory extravaganza that permeated a 20 meter radius.
We then drove back to Marlin’s beach resort and advised the staff to clean, prepare, and grill clams and steam fish for our lunch while we had a leisurely breakfast on the beach.
After breakfast it was only 9:30AM and we took the opportunity to explore the sand bar beside our resort that is shared with the Kota Beach Resort.
We then had our fresh catch of the day for lunch which had a cooking charge of PHP 200.00 and then had an afternoon siesta before relaxing on the beach front again with an in-house combination massage for PHP 400.00 for an hour.

I’ve been to Cebu but I’ve never been to Bantayan (one of my dream destinations here in the Philippines) Too bad it ain’t easy to take a leave from work for a couple of days (coz I think 2-3 days off is not enough to spend in this paradise). But I really really want to go here, probably early next year.
People have been taking about Bantayan like a mystery island, thanks for putting a face to it and exposing its true beauty. It now seems closer than ever before, but what a grueling journey. I guess you never really appreciate something unless you work hard for it.
I love your blog.. very nice colors & theme. Did you make this website yourself or did you hire someone to do it for you? Plz reply as I’m looking to construct my own blog and would like to know where u got this from. appreciate it
