Bantayan Island Day 3 – Madrilejos | The Blue Ice
We woke up at 9am to have breakfast at the resort and then proceeded to relax on the beach in preparation for our planned trip to Madrilejos (northernmost town in Bantayan Island) in the afternoon. We heard so much about Tristan’s Pizza, that we decided to have lunch at Tristan’s Restaurant before our leisurely drive up north.

Tristan is a conveniently located beachfront restaurant on the main road to Sta. Fe Port and a 3 minute scooter drive from Marlin’s Beach Resort.

Ripe Mango Shake - PHP 50.00++ ($US 1.25)

Tristan’s Special Pizza – PHP 295.00++ ($US 7.00) – Thin crust pizza with tomato sauce, cheese, sausage, mushroom, onion, ground beef, green pepper and pineapples
After all the hype, we were a bit disappointed with the quality of the ingredients and the shake was more than a tad bit watered down. The pizza was not as remarkable as the view but this experience did not dishearten us for our trip to the northernmost part of Bantayan Island 30km away.
Our first waypoint on the main hi-way was Bantayan town. It suddenly started to rain cats and dogs so fortunately we were able to buy a rain coat with matching pants, but unfortunately it was one size fits all. I wore the coat while Aksana wore the pants. We looked quite ridiculous but it provided the protection for the journey.
It was a blistering ride as the rain did not stop and just got stronger, but we had a mission and it will be accomplished. At the end of this hi-way was the town of Madrilejos and we were pleasantly surprised with the boardwalk and watchtower.
The Madrilejos Baywalk was completed in March 12, 2005 and even has what locals have come to know as the “Leap of Faith.” For those who are able to cross and reach the watchtower are truly brave souls indeed. We managed to do this with a bit of hesitation. Have you taken this leap of faith?
If we had known there was a picnic area, we could have also brought some snacks. We left at 3PM to go back to Sta. Fe and catch happy hour at one of our favorite places CouCou. We were on a pizza roll so we decided to try out their pizza, it had to be better than Tristan’s!
With this sign, who would not be tempted to try out the pizza?

CouCou Large Vegetarian Pizza - Php 300.00++ ($US 7.00) – Thin crust pizza with fresh tomatoes, onions, black olives, green peppers and topped off with mozzarella chese
This was definitely the best thin crust pizza we have had on the island thus far and definitely worth ordering again!

We then continued happy hour at the Hard Kock Café right next door as their happy hour was until 7PM.
For dinner we decided to try something new so we chanced upon the Blue Ice Bar and Restaurant.
We found the interiors to be quite spacious and with the surfboards and paraphanelia was like the local TGI Fridays of Bantayan. We ordered the grilled prawns with lemon butter sauce and the shrimp curry and green mango shakes.

Shrimp Curry - Php 200.00 – Delicious, perfect combination of coconut milk and curry powder!

Grilled Prawns w/ lemon butter sauce - PHP 200.00 = YUMMY, freshly grilled with a lemon butter sauce! The second time we ordered this the prawns were a bit smaller. The plating could have been more presentable but it tasted beautifully anyway.
Without a doubt the food at The Blue Ice was definitely the best that we had on the island – BRAVO to the chef! After our surprisingly satisfying dinner we had no problem falling asleep at our resort.
