Tagaytay Day 1 – Ryuma Ramen | Summit Ridge Hotel (Part 1 of 4)

Summit Ridge Pool

Tagaytay is at the top of our list for a weekend getaway from Manila due to the fresh mountain air, spectacular views, short travel time, choice of restaurants, and activities. If you are heading up why not consider the Summit Ridge Hotel? The Summit Ridge Hotel opened its doors in June 2009 and is a modern and conveniently located hotel on the ridge. We simply reserved a room the night before, packed a few essentials and were on the way at 9:00AM the following morning!

Ryuma Exterior
Debenhams Outlet Store & Ryuma Ramen on the 2nd Floor @ Paseo Greenfield City (Sta. Rosa Exit on the SLEX)

Our first stop on the way to Tagaytay was the Debenham’s Outlet Store at Paseo Greenfield City, they have discounts up to 70% and a new supply of garments every week. We noticed that the 2nd floor of the building had been completely developed to house the Ryuma Group of companies including:

Ryuma Grocery Entrance

Ryuma Grocery
Ryuma Kids
Ryuma Restaurant
Ryuma Ramen

They were setup to cater to the Japanese community within the Greenfield Technopark.

Ryuma Grocery Fridge

Ryuma Grocery was clean and tidy offering a well stocked wide variety of Japanese and foreign snacks and treats.

Ryuma Grocery Shopping Bag

After meandering through the grocery we decided to load up on a few alcoholic beverages that caught our eye, the most interesting of which was the Bizan Special Shochu with Gold Leaf for PHP 650.00 ($US 17.00).

Ryuma Ramen Entrance

Ryuma Ramen and Ryuma Restaurant are two separate units but offer the same Japanese menu.

Ryuma Ramen Machine
Ryuma Noodle Machine

It was too early for lunch, so the restaurant was still closed and we decided to grab a quick snack at Ryuma Ramen with their authentic and functional noodle machine and Japanese Head Chef.

Ryuma Ramen Touch Screen Menu

After browsing through their Lenovo touch screen menu and asking the staff for their best sellers and recommendations we decided to share the Chashu Men, which is essentially a ramen with Chashu style pork.

Ryuma Chashu Ramen
Chashu Men- PHP 280.00 Net ($US 7.00)

Chashu is normally made from the fattier cuts of pork that have been braised over low heat for an extremely long time. When done properly it will render the fat out while converting the collagen into a gelatinous consistency that literally would melt in your mouth like butter.

Ryuma Ramen Interior

The broth was truly exquisite and flavorful, the pork was savory and the freshly made noodles hit the spot. It was a great start to a great day that lay ahead. Have you been to Ryuma?

Ryuma Kitchen

Aside from ramen they also offer sushi, sashimi, domburi, udon etc. What dishes did you like?

  • I’ve been here a couple of times, and i must say, they serve the best shoyu ramen in this side of the planet! Even my younger cousins who dont really eat japanese food, had their favorite pick which is the chahan and ebi tempura. The place is very modern (high-tech tablet pc menu), well accentuated with japanese culture designs and the customer service was above the average. Over-all, if i was just living near this place, i would visit and eat at this place everyday!hihi Its one japanese restaurant where i can truly shout “ITEDAKIMAS” before diving in for the food!!!

  • Hi Shanah, Clarizza, and Ruby Ann,
Thanks for the comments, its interesting to know that this place is well regarded, it makes us want to take another trip to try out their other dishes! We heard from the staff that during the evenings it is packed with Japanese workers and the feeling is definitely like you are in Japan!

i tried this place just last week, food was simply delectable we had the ramen, assorted sashimi, katsu curry, no complaints here. :-)

  • nice place. you might also want to try the Hawaiian babyback ribs at The Boutique after eating ramen, or the other way around. =)

  • Hi Aldam,
Thanks for the feedback, we will definitely give the Hawaiian ribs a shot next time we go to Tagaytay!

  • marky

Never saw so many japanese people in one place! I wondered where they all came from but it must mean the food is good.

    @Marky
Japanese people gather here because across paseo de sta. rosa is Laguna Technopark where Japanese firms are located. My sister and i will have dinner at Paseo this friday, now that i have read all your comments, i will definitely take my sister to Ryuma! =)

hubby and i went to greenfields/paseo to look for a new place for my birthday dinner. i was craving for japanese food and i asked him that we try ryuma. it was a great dinner! service is fast and courteous, staff are friendly and helpful, food is great, and above all we couldn’t believe our bill – very, very cheap considering the generous serving and it’s authentic japanese food, chefs, and atmosphere.

since it was our first time there, a waitress helped us choose the dishes by explaining to us the dishes. she stayed awhile chatting us a bit about ryuma.

i told her how amazed i am that this restaurant occupied almost the whole floor, and thought the toys and decors were for sale and that i was interested to buy a bike for my kid. she said those toys were prizes to raffle for kid guests.

i noticed that they use fine stoneware and china (noritake legendary was used to serve our dishes). i commented that i can’t bring my kids there for they might break the china. the waitress said not to worry because they don’t charge extra for broken dishes. she also said that she broke one large platter and that she was not told to pay for it.
she added that the owners are very kind and generous.

i think they are indeed generous because i noticed a kiosk outside of the restaurant where they serve free meals for the customers’ drivers! where can you find (considerate) service like that?

after a few minutes from ordering, we saw a parade of waiters/crew approaching us. it was the food we ordered!

we had seafood salad with generous helping of salmon roe, ume – assorted sashimi plate, yasai itame, grilled tofu steak, and chasu men. all these for a little more than a thousand pesos. and they don’t charge for service!

by the way, ryuma also has a loyalty pass. each visit with a minimum order entitles you to one stamp. 250 stamps will win you a local trip to something like palawan and baguio. and 600 stamps will take you to asian locales.

    nice di ba?

and so, i am raving about this restaurant not only because the service is courteous, food is great and the price is cheap. but more so because of the kind way they treat their employees. and you can feel how sincerely happy and proud they are.

am going back for seconds, and thirds, and fourths…

  • Hi Chris,
Thanks for your insight on Ryuma. We hope more people will take the time to drive out of town and visit this unique Japanese resto.
