Tears For Fears Live in Manila – May 2, 2010 – Mad World!
Tears For Fears Live in Manila – May 2, 2010 @ none other than the largest indoor arena in Asia – The Araneta Coliseum. This was a eagerly anticipated concert that has been overdue for the past 25 Years. Philippine fans have been patient and resolute and proved their devotion by showing up en masse! Not just 10,000 people but a sold out full capacity of 25,000 kababayans with a few foreigners in the mix including one Belarussian!

Tears For Fears arrived on the stage with thunderous applause at 9:00PM and started with a quick excerpt of “Mad World” before “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”
“Mad World” is from their successful first album with Curt Smith taking the lead, here is the full original version that was sung during the middle of the concert made available via Youtube. This brought the crowd at all levels to their feet!

After “Mad World” (Full Original Version) Roland Orzabal then took the opportunity to say “It’s a thrill and an honor to be here in Manila,” and was wondering why it took so long for them to come to Manila especially since they have already been touring around the world from the fjords of Norway to the deserts of Africa.
Towards the end they performed “Head Over Heals” which made the crowd stand, sing and gyrate again at full attention.
After “Woman in Chains” they left the stage for a pause leaving the fans clamoring and screaming for more. After three minutes of chaotic nervousness within the crowd, they came back to the stage for their final song “Shout”
The group then said a quick “Thank you Manila!” and left the stage, which we found a bit abrupt especially since Filipinos have been waiting practically a lifetime to see them perform live.
Nevertheless this Live in Manila concert was another testament to Tears For Fears as pop rock icons that have dominated the 80’s and endured in the minds of Filipinos until this day and age. This truly amazing concert will be remembered for quite some time and hopefully Tears For Fears will make another visit within the next quarter century!
We could not resist providing another “Mad World” clip from their concert in Paris 2005. The clarity on this is superb!
Were you one of the 25,000? We would like to here your thoughts about the concert!
